dog sniffing out rot in historic building

Holy Trinity Church Sunderland

Commissioned by the Churches Conservation Trust in Spring 2016, we carried out practical activities in the 300 year old Grade 1 listed church, engaging with schools, colleges and the local community to help them gain an understanding of the history of the church and the conservation work that is being undertaken.

Among the many activities taking place was the very rare opportunity to see a "Rot Hound" at work, sniffing out damp and rot in parts of the building that are not easily seen, so that intervention can take place at a much earlier stage, saving more of the historic fabric of the building and causing less damage than traditional investigative methods.
