Join Nev Kirby, John Richie, Jason Richie of the National Trust, Ray Stockdale of English Heritage and Tony McNally of Historic Property Restoration for an informal day of exploring the many uses of lime in historic buildings.  You will observe an explosive lime slake, have the lime cycle explained, look at the different types of lime available and try your hand at pointing, plastering, building and lime washing.  No experience needed.

This practical one day course, aimed at contractors and specifiers, is led by Ray Stockdale, Technical Manager for English Heritage (North East).  During the day you will identify problems caused by cementitious pointing and look at ways of tackling on-going issues.  This practical course will give you an opportunity to see problems such as accelerated stone decay through movement of soluble salts, wind erosion and freeze thaw action caused by inappropriate repairs, before examining solutions to tackle such problems whilst maintaining an historic building.  Suitable for contractors and specifiers only.
