North of England Civic Trust
The National Heritage Training Group (NHTG) is an independent specialist sector skills development group with a UK-wide remit to provide assistance with all aspects of recruiting, training, and qualifying the built heritage sector workforce of the construction industry.
This is achieved by working in partnership with clients, heritage bodies, contractors, Trade Federations, Trades Unions and FE and private training providers to develop flexible training and skills development to ensure there are sufficiently skilled craftspeople to work on the UK's historic building stock.
NHTG has secured £1.3 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund through the Skills for the Future programme, for the Enhancement of Traditional Building Craft Skills Training throughout England and require a project manager. The appointment is for a self employed person on a fixed-term contract for 27 months (January 2012 to March 2015) working full time, based at home but involving extensive travel throughout England.
Remuneration is to be £38,000 - £44,000 per annum (depending upon experience).
The role is to manage the development of a programme for organisations across England to create new heritage training opportunities by delivering bursaries, site-based placements, mentoring, specialist awards and foundation degrees. It will involve:
Managing and monitoring the project including day-to-day financial management and reporting to the HLF and the Project Management Board; managing and developing relationships with the 7Regional Heritage Skills Co-ordinators and other partners.
Proven project management ability is essential. Work will be carried out with limited supervision, so the ability to work independently is also essential, as are excellent written and oral communication skills. Other essential skills are leadership, the ability to contribute to the strategic development of the project and to negotiate with funders and sponsors.
Experience in construction training and education, the heritage sector or a related field is an advantage.
NHTG is committed to Equal Opportunities and to increasing diversity within the sector.
