Cultural Heritage as Economic Value – Graham Bell was invited to make an opening presentation to the inaugural gathering in Athens of the InHeriT Erasmus+ partnership in May, 2016. His presentation, ‘Euros are not the only fruit: reaping the full harvest of cultural heritage’, drew upon the role of NECT in policy shaping and as a practitioner putting principles into practice through demonstration projects. Examples included successful Townscape Heritage programmes, the internationally acclaimed Grainger Town and NECT’s own building preservation trust projects. A core theme of his presentation and the conference is the need to engage more young people in internships and work experience to give them an essential opportunity to develop their professional careers or in traditional skills. Papers from the conference will be published in 2017.
